Tuesday 18th June - walk **** – Lanndguard Nature Reserve – sunny periods.

As we are out this afternoon visiting an old friend as its Tuesday and we needed to go to Lidl Mag and I decided to get up early and head down to the lovely Landguard nature Reserve for a walk:) We parked at 7.20 with the sun making an appearance through some wispy clouds and pretty much had the whole reserve to ourselves and the wild flowers are just amazing at the moment. There were a few linnets flitting about and the usual bunnies hoping about. We turned right past Landguard fort to the view point where the brand new OOCL Finland was being unloaded on the first berth. As we walked back along the River Orwell we noticed what looked like a pontoon in the water next to the large ship which we soon learned was a couple of containers that had probably been knocked off, somebody was having a bad day! Then as we approached the small wooden pier two tugs appeared and headed to the floating containers, so we sat on the pier for half an hour to watch the action unfold! The tug made light work of pushing the containers past the Finland to the quayside and after a bit of faffing they managed to get them attached to a huge crane and they were slowly lifted out of the water, quite exciting to watch, not so good if one of the containers had your goods in them! Excitement over we continued through the reserve with the vipers buglos and yellow birds foot trefoil just got better and better. We then ambled along the shore with the sea flat as a pancake on what must be the best beach in Felixstowe! Back to the van and onto Lidl for a keep shop before home for breakfast and sort my pics out, quite an adventure it was too!
